Question

How is it to keep the names Meerab, Maliha, Zarnash?

Answer
Summary of the Answer

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh — Background: Good, meaningful names are the responsibility of the parents; on the Day of Resurrection people will be called by their own names and the names of their fathers.

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh — Background: Good, meaningful names are the responsibility of the parents; on the Day of Resurrection people will be called by their own names and the names of their fathers.

1. Meerab: Permissible, but it is not a well-known Arabic/Islamic name — Persian “Mir” (guardian/chief) + “Ab” (water) = guardian/chief of water. The meaning is not bad, therefore it is correct; giving preference to the names of the female Companions is better.

2. Maliha: Very beautiful, liked and the best — Arabic: beautiful, lovely, of an awe-inspiring and attractive countenance. The meanings are splendid and pure; commendable for girls.

3. Zarnash: Permissible — Persian: gold, a golden flower, a precious thing. There is no aspect of shirk or badness in it; there is no prohibition.

Summary: Maliha is the best; then Zarnash and Meerab are also permissible (their meanings are not bad); the very best of all: the names of the Mothers of the Believers and the female Companions.
