Question

How is it to name someone "Huram"?

Answer
Summary of the Answer

It is permissible, but it is not counted among the very best or well-known Islamic names.

It is permissible, but it is not counted among the very best or well-known Islamic names. Two aspects: (1) By its connection with "Hur" — a woman of Paradise with beautiful eyes; in the Arabic lexicon "Huram" is not a regular word, but it is used in the sense of beauty — in this respect it is permissible. (2) An altered form of the Persian/Turkish "Khurram" — joyful and happy, fresh and flourishing; the name of the Ottoman queen Hurrem Sultan was also this — in this meaning too it is a good name.

The best method: Girls' names should be after the Mothers of the Believers, the Prophet's daughters and the female Companions (A'ishah, Fatimah, Khadijah, Zaynab, Maryam, Asma', etc.) — in them the blessing and the connection are strong.

Summary: There is no prohibition or sin in keeping Huram; a name with a clear meaning or one connected to the female Companions would be better.
